Stage international de violoncelle 2012 - Violoncelles à Belle Serre

Belle-Serre, résidence de la violoncelliste et enseignante internationale, Lowri Blake, offre le cadre idéal pour Violoncelles à Belle Serre.

Quatres stages intensifs de violoncelle sont proposés aux dates suivantes :

Semaine 1 : 16-23 juillet 2012

Semaine 2 : 28 juillet - 4 août 2012

Semaine 3 : 21-28 août 2012

Weekend : 1-2 septembre 2012

Situé dans un parc boisé de deux hectares, avec des vues panoramiques sur la Montagne Noire dans le sud-ouest de la France, Belle Serre propose des stages intensifs de violoncelle sous la direction de Lowri Blake.

Chaque stage en été dure une semaine (arrivée à 18h le 1^er jour, départ à 10h le dernier jour). Les participants feront un concert en fin de stage.

Tarifs:

€790 le stage d’une semaine, pension complète.

€655 le stage d’une semaine, déjeuner et dîner compris.

Tous niveaux sont accueillis, des débutants au niveau avancé. Amateurs, étudiants et professionnels sont également les bienvenus.

Chaque jour comportera des cours individuels et des cours en mini-groupes, dirigés par Lowri dans un cadre détendu et convivial.

Un programme journalier varié est proposé et comprend des cours particuliers, des répertoires duos avec pianistes Isabelle Pourkat et Camille Galinier, des ateliers techniques, des cours en mini-groupes (de 2 à 8 personnes) avec Willemijn Knödler et Susan Urbita, et des séances de musique de chambre avec un invité musicien. L’objectif du stage est de travailler et d’améliorer son niveau dans un cadre informel. Des moments de détente autour de la piscine sont également proposés, ainsi que des balades dans les bois ombragés autour de Belle Serre.

D’autres activités comprennent des visites à Castres, Albi, au parc national du Sidobre ainsi qu’à Hautpoul, village médiéval situé près de Mazamet, Lautrec (célèbre pour son moulin restauré et son ail rose label rouge), des conférences données par des luthiers sur la fabrication du violon et du violoncelle et un repas dans un restaurant régional pour les stages d’été. Des détails précis pour chaque semaine seront affichés prochainement.

Les places sont limitées à 7 personnes pension complète et 4 personnes demi-pension. Il est conseillé de réserver le plus rapidement possible. Il y a également de la place pour des campeurs.

Le week-end en septembre (1 et 2 sept 2012) est pour tous âges, des faux-débutants au niveau Cycle I/ II. Un concert de solos et d’ensembles aura lieu à 17h30 le dimanche 2 sept.

Tarifs : €190 (tous cours, repas et hébergement le samedi soir compris) ou €165 (demi-pension). Possibilité d’hébergement supplémentaire les vendredis et dimanches soirs : nous contacter pour tarifs.

Pour ceux qui préfèrent venir sans leur instrument, deux violoncelles sont à votre disposition, dont une belle copie d’un 1693 Francesco Ruggieri fabriqué en 2000 par Marc Soubeyran. L’archet n’est pas fourni.

Pour nous trouver : prendre l’avion jusqu’à Toulouse (EasyJet/ British Airways) ou Carcassonne (Ryanair). De Toulouse centre-ville prendre le train à Castres. Sinon, un service de taxi partagé part directement de l’aéroport. De Paris-Orly, il y a des vols journaliers à Castres avec Airlinair.

La réservation est confirmée en versant un acompte de 115 euros avant le 1^er mai 2012 pour les stages d’été. Le solde est dû le 1^er juillet 2012. L’acompte pour le stage de septembre doit être reçu au plus tard le 15 juillet. Nous nous réservons le droit d’annuler un stage, auquel cas les frais versés seront remboursés intégralement.

Set in five acres of gardens and woodland, with magnificent views of the Montagne Noire, Belle Serre offers an idyllic environment for an intensive cello week in south-west France, with international cellist Lowri Blake. Lowri will be giving daily individual and group tuition in an informal atmosphere.

The summer courses run for one week (18.00 arrival on the first day, 10.00 departure on the final day), with a concert given by participants on the last evening of the course. The cost, to include all tuition, meals and accommodation is £680/€790. Non-residents are charged at £565/€655 including lunch and supper each day. Tuition is for all levels, from elementary to advanced. Amateurs, students and professional cellists are all welcome.

A varied daily schedule will include individual tuition, duo repertoire with pianists Isabelle Pourkat and Camille Galinier, group technical workouts and ensemble playing from duos to octets with Willemijn Knödler and Susan Urbita, chamber music sessions with a guest musician each week, and discussions about all aspects of cello playing. The aim is to study hard in a house party setting, with time to relax too, basking in the sunshine around the pool or taking long shady walks in the surrounding countryside.

Visits to Castres, Albi, the Sidobre national park, Hautpoul, the hilltop medieval village near Mazamet, Lautrec, renowned for its restored windmill and pink garlic, talks given by luthiers about violin and cello making and instrument care, and a course meal out at a local restaurant are also planned for the summer. Full details of each week will be posted shortly.

Places are limited to seven residential and four non-residential participants. Do contact us to reserve your place as soon as possible. Space for camping is also available.

The September Weekend (1st and 2nd September 2012) is for cellists of all ages, and caters for near beginners and for players of up to about ABRSM Grade VII/Cycle I/ II standard. We will give a short concert of solos and ensembles at 17.30 on Sunday 2nd at Belle Serre. The cost for the weekend is €190 to include all tuition and meals, and accommodation on Saturday night. The cost for non-residents will be €165. Additional accommodation and meals on Friday and Sunday nights for those travelling from further afield will be charged as taken - please ask for details and availability.

There are two cellos available here for those of you who would prefer to travel without an instrument, one of them a fine copy of a 1693 Francesco Ruggieri cello, made 10 years ago by Marc Soubeyran. Bring your own bow!

Transport: by air to Toulouse (EasyJet/British Airways) or Carcassonne (Ryanair). There is a train service between Toulouse and Castres, and a shared taxi is available from Toulouse airport.

A deposit of £100/€115 for the summer courses is payable to Lowri Blake by May 1st, with the balance due by 1st July. A deposit of €60 for the September weekend is due by 15th July. We reserve the right to cancel the course, in which case any fees paid will be repaid in full.

Cello master class and workshop at Dartington Summer School 2012

I shall be teaching and performing once again at Dartington International Summer School in August 2012. Do come and join me in Week 4 - Saturday August 11th until Saturday August 18th. Players of all levels are welcome, students, amateurs and professionals.

Cellists this last summer came from the UK, France and Japan, and, as ever, we had a great week working on not only basics but a wide range of cello repertoire; not even sight-reading Poulenc's notoriously tricky sonata fazed the incomparable Jonathan Watts, our pianist for the week. Thanks, Jonathan!

On the wireless - Page To Performance

I will be presenting two programmes this month in the latest series of Page to Performance, which follows the genesis of a popular work through to its first performance.

Mahler's Final Adagio will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Tuesday September 20th at 13.30, (with a repeat on Saturday September 24th at 15.30).http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006rbnm

I will be speaking with members of the National Youth Orchestra and their principal conductor, Vasily Petrenko, about the challenges they faced in preparing the performing version of Mahler's extraordinarily passionate, and uncompleted, tenth symphony. I later heard the NYO's superb performance at the Royal Festival Hall in London; it brought back memories of my five wonderful years playing with the orchestra when I was a teenager.

The concert suite of the ballet Billy The Kid is a compelling work. Aaron Copland evokes images of the wide open prairie, the hustle and bustle in a small frontier town, and the fierce gun battle as Billy, a hunted outlaw, is finally captured. There are startling moments in this music, from the ricochets of gun fire, to the most moving and tender moments out in the desert under a starry night sky. Billythe Kid goes out on BBC Radio 4 on Tuesday September 27th at 13.30.

The producer of the series is Richard Bannerman, for Ladbroke Productions.

Stage de violoncelle pour les jeunes violoncellistes et les adultes amateurs.

Un court stage de deux jours pour les jeunes violoncellistes et les adultes au niveau faux débutant jusqu'au deuxième cycle aura lieu les 3 et 4 septembre 2011.

Venez profiter de 2 jours intensifs de stage de violoncelle au soleil du sud-ouest de la France. Ce stage aura lieu à Violoncelles à Belle Serre sous la direction de Lowri Blake, violoncelliste et enseignante internationale, de 09.30h le samedi 3 septembre jusqu'à 18.00h dimanche 4 septembre. Chaque jour comprendra des cours particuliers, des ateliers de technique et des sessions en groupe, et un petit concert en fin de journée.

A truly international cello fest!

With cellists arriving at Belle Serre this summer from Mexico, Holland, Germany, France, England, Scotland, Italy, Japan and Switzerland, Cellos at Belle Serre will be a truly international gathering.

In addition to a master class each day, there will be sessions for cello ensembles, technical 'workouts', and chamber music with guest musicians from London, clarinettist Mark Lacey and violinist Kate Lindon. Each cellist will have the opportunity to work on duo repertoire and piano trios with superb pianist Isabelle Pourkat, and I am delighted that Tarn-based cellist Sue Urbita will join us once again to play in the cello ensembles, along with the young Dutch cellist Willemijn Knoedler, who will be joining the coaching team for the first time this summer.

Following on from Sue Urbita's marvellous guided tour and presentation last summer of the instrument collection at Cordes-sur-Ciel set up by Sue and violin maker Christian Urbita, I am pleased to welcome Dutch luthier, Edwin Katzie, (also based in the Tarn), who will be giving a presentation on cello making, and advising us all as to how best to look after our instruments.

Each course this summer rounds off with an informal concert, providing an opportunity for all the cellists to perform solos, duos, movements from piano trios and clarinet trios, and cello ensemble music studied during the week. The concerts will be held at the Conservatoire de Musique et de Danse du Tarn in Castres. Many thanks to the Directors of the CMDT for allowing us to use their spacious auditorium for our musical soirées.
